i like working with a big group of people. it's a huge mix of creative ideas not just from me but from the subjects/models themselves. this shot, actually was a suggested idea from one of the girls in the group. This is a sorority group called Gamma Lil Sis. I think the initial idea was cute and fun because I could place girls in different places. I love the negative space of the wall and the floor.

the inevitable has come. the great transition to digital is almost fully complete.
let me recall how i found out so abruptly:

my boyfriend, taking his first trip to new york was without camera.
after numerous attempts to let him use my dslr he passes.
the day before his flight i whip out my cornucopia of boxes and select my basic canon rebel xt film slr
a good entry camera, small, light weight, serves its purpose
in order to get this camera working i buy those ridiculous ten dollar lithium cr2 batteries
with a 5 pack fuji roll of film at walmart
this cost me a total of maybe $20 or so bucks plus tax
Even though this camera is a relic I figure its a small price to pay for making memories last
fast forward to a week later, he asks me to find out the cheapest price in developing the film.
I literally call the following stores within my reach:
CVS
WALMART
TARGET
WALGREENS
COSTCO
Five the major photo centers throughout the country
Costco - I need membership
Target - bad customer service
Walmart - DISAPPOINTMENT. FAILURE.
They informed me they no longer develop rolls of film. THE EXACT SAME STORE & LOCATION I PURCHASED THE ROLLS OF FILM just turned me down for photo service.
Now what kind of store sells products that they cannot do the service for?
I am irked.

Now, past experience has led me to think that my reviews of photo service is credible:
On a 5 Point Scale (1 - Poor, 5 - Best):
CVS - 3
Convenient. Essentially what CVS is.
Its a quickie store that provides decent service.
Also, it gives glossy/matte options which even the giants don't offer.
It has the potential to get better.
They offer 1 Hour FILM developing

WALGREENS - 2.8
Just short of CVS potential, this convenient store is identical in all ways.
However, they lack photo paper choices.

*NOTE to the WISE
Convenient stores are only that. Fast and easy. C-O-N-V-E-N-I-E-N-T
That does not mean cheap. Because they are "easy" so to speak, they don't take much care into your film.
(i.e. clean film from dust prior to printing)

WALMART circa 2006 - 3.8
Quick service with drop off availibility.
Offered paper options at considerable prices.
Locations scattered everywhere.
WALMART circa 2009 - 1
I know that rating is considerably harsh.
but if you sell film and you don't offer to print, you not only mislead the customer but you make your store not so much the "One Stop" place anymore.
At the very least, it should be noted to customers that you no longer offer the service & recommend where they can go. OR just put a sign next to the film saying so.
It's just stupid.

WOLF CAMERA - 4
I may be biased because I worked at two locations for about 6 months
They offer glossy/matte, border/no border services
Plus they know development inside and out.
Clean the film before printing and know their stuff.
What stops them from becoming a 5? Outrageous printing fees and snobby dispositions.

I think that film will slowly die out, if it already has not.

I'm not ready but alas the world waits for no one.
